Fine Art

It's been a long and productive journey, and I also think these past two weeks has been a confirmation of the kind of artist that I am. Drawing, and painting especially, have been my passion since forever, so I thought that going into fine art would allow me to show just that.
The first week involved drawing from the four installations which were set up around class. It was tiring standing up and drawing for hours, but the results were very interesting, as we tended to focus on a certain point and draw that object from different angles and perspectives.
We then moved onto animation. This area appealed to me, but I wasn't too sure if I was able to generate creative ideas. It was, however, a lot of fun. Using our acetate sheets of our drawings and adding that to our photos formed great compositions. I liked it at that point of time only, and thus I didn't take it further with me.
When it came to concentrating on our final ideas, I was inspired by the chaotic installations around me. Artists tend to be influenced by their environment, just like how I was. I researched two artists, Ian Burns and Evan Holloway, which added to that inspiration. I particularly liked the way they played around with spaces. In the end, I took a certain shape and replicated it. I was very pleased with the results, especially the way I photographed it. I wanted to experiment with colour, however I felt that it would ruin the sophisticated look that I wanted to present.
During our group discussions, I got some very useful feedback. Firstly, my peers wanted to see more sketches and especially how that idea came to me. I agreed with that, however sometimes I tend to get my ideas by just cutting out and playing with the shapes. I maybe should have stuck those different shapes into my sketchbook to show the development. We then discussed how my models could have been on a bigger scale and maybe joining two models together to create a large structure. In addition, some models couldn't be turned to be viewed at different points, due to balance issues, thus I should have concentrated on making that happen. My photographs were interesting, but another idea they presented to me, was to play around with lighting, which would create very interesting pictures. I think the feedback was very useful and I can definitely use all of these ideas to help create my final portfolio.
